Yes, even by becoming a smarter consumer, you can help the environment, and one brand just made it easier for you to do so – Unilever. Here’s how they’re doing it!

A meaningful collaboration

Last Earth Day, April 22, Unilever announced the project “Easy Green” with its Home Care brand and Lazada. The project is  “a three-year exclusive e-commerce sustainability partnership that aims to enable easy access for millions of Filipino consumers who are adopting an eco-friendlier lifestyle.”

Basically, this Easy Green campaign aims to address the challenge of having limited access to and knowledge about the limitedly available eco-friendly products dito sa Pilipinas. The goal is (1) to help consumers identify the brands taking the extra step toward a better future and (2) to aid them in making better and greener online purchases.

The products included in the initiative under Unilever’s Home Care brands are either

  • at least 99% biodegradable,
  • have at least met a minimum of 50% renewable carbon sources,
  • formulated with a minimum of 10% reduced greenhouse gases (GHG), or
  • packaged in a better, less, or no plastic at all.

Pretty neat, ‘di ba? Now, here’s a more thorough look at what goes on in the campaign that will surely help you achieve a greener online shopping habit!

Green Labels and Eco-Friendly Packaging in Sulit Bundles

On Unilever Home Care's flagship store in Lazada, which is home to several cleaning and laundry brands like Surf, Breeze, Domex, Comfort, Cif, Sunlight, Domestos, and Lifebuoy, one of the first things you'll probably notice is the Easy Green category, wherein you'll find products with unique labels.

This is, of course, in line with its goal to make it easier and more convenient for consumers to identify kung anu-ano nga ba yung greener options under them.

Under the Easy Green category, Unilever took the time to put the green labels on eco-friendly and sustainable product offerings from Surf, Breeze, and Domex. These products are mostly big bottles or refill packs of homecare products bundled or sold together as a combined package at a lower and often discounted price. Sobrang sulit and wais kasi you get to clean your home with the best of Unilever’s homecare brands as well as help the world by purchasing environmentally friendly products sa murang halaga!

Pero what do we mean by eco-friendly and sustainable products? Green initiative reveal muna tayo with the Easy Green brands ha. Did you know that Domex's bottles are actually made of 99% biodegradable ingredients? And the packaging of Breeze's homecare products is made of 90% recycled plastic! Syempre hindi magpapahuli ang Surf with its product refill packs manufactured with less plastic – meaning, there is at least 5% less virgin plastic used than their previous packaging. Very helpful sa nature, and to you, Budol Buddies, who aim to make a difference no matter what little ways!

FOR A CLEANER FUTURE

Now, what’s the story behind this campaign?

Aside from the fact that Easy Green is recently made through a partnership between Unilever and Lazada, this campaign is actually in line with the former's $1.1-billion Clean Future innovation strategy launched to fundamentally change the way the company's cleaning and laundry products are created, manufactured and packaged, and ultimately replace ingredients na galing sa fossil fuels with alternatives from renewable or recycled sources by 2030.

"We designed Easy Green to better serve Filipino digital eco-shoppers, in line with our Clean Future initiative. It is our commitment to developing products that are high-performing, kind to people and the planet, at accessible prices. This includes our approach to create products that are biodegradable, renewable, and use better, less or no plastic," Benjie Yap, Chairman and CEO of Unilever Philippines explained.

So, you see, this is no one-time thing, and Unilever really understood the assignment, what with their continuous efforts to reimagine the future of cleaning. Kaya naman talagang we can't help but support and be in awe dahil for a company to go the extra mile to care for our very home is truly inspiring and can leave you hoping.

So, with the fact that working toward a cleaner future does not happen overnight, and our action -- or inaction -- will determine our future, importanteng maintindihan natin na it is a joint, continuous effort involving communities, corporations, meaningful initiatives, and of course, everyone's individual steps. So invest in our planet now in your own little way! Be a wiser consumer and shop greener with Unilever!
